Security and Confidentiality Policies
Subject Confidentiality
The fMRI Data Center recognizes the need to ensure,
protect and preserve subject confidentiality of the data it
contains. Only by giving subject confidentiality the highest
priority can the Data Center gain the trust of the community
of researchers it wishes to serve. Without your confidence,
the Data Center cannot hope to achieve its goal of creating
a vital and useful resource for all to use. The Data Center
will always treat subject confidentiality with the utmost
importance and respect that it deserves. We thereby request
the cooperation of authors in this matter to ensure that
subject anonymity is preserved. For more information concerning
subject confidentiality please see the memo concerning submission of data from human subjects.
Visitor Confidentiality
For site management and statistical purposes, The fMRI Data Center
collects information through standard Web logs.
These logs contain information regarding the domain name or IP addresses
of visitors to our site along with the web pages visited. In order to
better server the fMRI community, these logs are checked periodically to
determine what internet browsers and operating systems are used to access
our site as well as information regarding access patterns of the web pages
on the site. The fMRI Data Center also uses these logs to create
summary statistics in order to measure the number of visitors to various
sections of our site. Using these statistics gathered from the logs we
hope to be able to make our site more useful. Except for authorized law
enforcement investigations, or internal investigations into the misuse or
suspected misuse of the services provided by the fMRIDC, no attempt is made
to identify individual users or the usage patterns of individual users.
